Electronics In Schools

Electronics in schools are on the rise. As the years continue and the high demand in modern technology increases. Many new phones, handheld devices, and computers are in use. Students bring these items into school and use them when they shouldn't be, such as in the class room. Cell phones and other handheld devices pose a distraction to the class room and a threat to educators. Texting and listening to music in class takes away from the lesson that is being taught. I took a poll of 3 teachers and it was unanimous that they did not want electronics in their classroom. One teacher, Mr. Cap, doesn't mind if his students use their electronics in class. But, he also says some students can’t handle the privilege of being able to use it in the class room, so he no longer allows it. Ms. Pacelli, also a very lenient teacher no longer allows electronics in use in her classroom for the same reasons. Mr. Jones does not allow cell phones, iPods, or laptops to be in use in his class room, he also does not allow students to charge their electronics in his class. These electronics are also a threat to educators and other staff members. If a student is to lose their phone or other device in school, they try to hold teachers accountable for it being stolen or misplaced. Teachers can have a very hard time and would have to pay for the missing device if it cannot be found. Irresponsible students can get a teacher into much trouble. That is why here in the New Haven school district the superintendent passed a rule to ban all electronics in schools. Students may bring them to school at their own risk, but cannot blame any staff for missing items unless the staff confiscated them.
